International Summer School on:
Virtual Engineering Software Solutions for Space Applications as Nano-Labs &
Nano-Sats using the PTC ThingWorx Platform - VESPER
- A Hack-a-Thon Event July, 20th – 31rd 2015
Dumitru Dorin Prunariu, Romanian Cosmonaut
Aim & Objectives:
The aim of the summer school is the evaluation of the state of the art in the field of Virtual
Engineering Software Solutions for Nano-Labs and Nano-Sats and to focus the efforts of very
talented and experienced students in software engineering to develop reference frameworks for
such applications using PTC ThingWorx Platform.
The summer school is organized as a Hack-a-Thon event. Such events also known as Hack days,
Hackfests or Codefests are gathering computer programmers and other partners involved in
software development to collaborate intensively on software projects.
The event is organized by the Black Sea Universities Network in cooperation with PTC Inc. and
NanoRacks LLC, on the premises of the “Ovidius” University of Constanta and COSMOMAR
Center for Space Technologies.
The objectives of the VESPER Event are the following:
 To present the state of the art in the field of space applications with an emphasis on NanoLabs and Nano-Sats;
 To evaluate the state of the art concerning the architecture, components and virtual
engineering software solutions for Nano-Labs and Nano-Sats;
 To gain knowledge on using the Internet of Things (IoT) Platform of PTC - ThingWorx;
 To design the Nano-Labs and Nano-Sats as a Smart Connected Thing;
 To develop an application on using the PTC ThingWorx for integration with Nano-Labs and
 To build the Mashup Application for monitoring and data analysis of Nano-Labs and NanoSats.
Target audience:
The summer school is addressing students and research fellow with a good knowledge and skills in
programming and with an interest on space technologies and IoT Platforms.
