Water at 20 °C is to be pumped by a motor-pump from reservoir A to a higher elevation reservoir at
B through (each one) 36.0 m long two pipes that are connected in parallel as shown. Both pipes are made up of
commercial steel and their diameters are 4.0 and 8.0 cm. The motor-pump characteristics are as tabulated. All
the minor losses and the major loss of those pipes that connect the parallel pipes to those two reservoirs just
before and after the parallel pipes are considered to be negligible. For case A & case B:
a) Determine the total flow rate ‘QT’ between the reservoirs and the discharge in each pipe ‘Q1’ & ‘Q2’?
b) Determine the power required ‘PP’for this system?
