OVERARCHING QUESTION TO CONSIDER:
WHAT DEFINES US AS A PEOPLE?
OVERARCHING GOAL:
TO TAKE THE IDEAS AND VOCABULARY
ENCAPSULATED IN THE DECLARATION OF
INDEPENDENCE AND THE CONSTITUTION AND
SEQUENCE THEIR DEVELOPMENT AND INSTRUCTION
IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
CLASSROOMS.
STRUCTURE FOR SESSION:
1. Take the documents referenced in Dr. Smock’s presentation, extract and
highlight the main ideas and vocabulary found in the documents that would
be necessary to develop with students.
2. Take your main ideas and vocabulary and begin to sequence their
instructional development. First point of consideration would be to cross
reference the instructional sequence with SOL requirements for each grade
level.
3. Take the learning strategies referenced in Dr. Chamot’s presentation and
match your main ideas and vocabulary with learning strategies that would be
appropriate at each grade level.
4. Develop a graphic that shows the sequence of the ideas and vocabulary from
the documents across the grade levels.
