History
• UN/CEFACT Architecture
started after ebXML
• First version did not get FCT
approval
• Several attempts to restart
architecture under TMG
• Moved to FMG level to
ensure broader participation
• Renamed to UN/CEFACT

Activities
• Provide advice to the FMG decision process on the
Standards Development Framework
• Identify different alternative solutions for a business
architecture
• Evaluate and propose suitable architecture solutions
• Provide majority and minority positions on evaluated
solutions
• Identification and suggested prioritization of new projects
in order to facilitate the completion of the decision
• Evaluate project proposals for framework compatibility
• Identify release packages of compatible versions of
technical specifications

Deliverables
• Standards Development Framework
This document articulates the UN/CEFACT´s
business architecture layer. The document defines
the relationships and dependences of the existing
standards and, where possible, provides guidance for
the development of future standards.
• Release Packages.
• Evaluation Reports
for project proposals of new technical specifications
or revisions of technical specifications.

• How does the framwork and the deliverables contribute to the
mission of CEFACT?
• Who is the audience of the framework and of the CEFACT
end products?
• What is the relationship with other SDOs?
• Which different views of inter-operability do exist?
• What do we mean by re-use?
• What are the main principles – such as syntax-neutrality - to
be respected by an framework?
• Which technologies do we use for which purpose?
• How do the CEFACT functions (technical specifications) fit
together and how do they support the CEFACT deliverables?
• What are the CEFACT deliverables and their
interdependencies?
Critical success factors
• Participation of all PGs.
• Consistency with existing architecture
documents
• Buy-in on the to-be architecture from the
recognized CEFACT stakeholders – it has
to speak their language
