Summary
 This survey represents 89% of our school population
 It can be seen that over two thirds of the school travel to school in the “carwith own family “
 Each class results in 31,095 kg greenhouse gas per year = volume of 31,095
standard fridges
(To calculate School Greenhouse Gases Released by student car trips = no students in school 235 * % “car with
own family” 67% * 3.3 km avg round trip * 5 days per week * 40 weeks of the year *0.3 Kg of GHG per km driven.)

St Augustine’s Primary School- Audit
summary
Walking and cycling routes
Parking and Road Infrastructure
We noted the following about the walking and cycling routes around
the school:
1. Were very good, there are plenty of wide footpaths that are even
and good for walking
2. Getting across Francisco Road can be a problem on a bicycle
3. Using the bridge over Orrong Road is a safe, traffic free route to
school and a drop off zone can be used on the other side of the
bridge
We found out that the problems with parking arrangements around the
school are:
1. Parents reversing out of the car parking spaces directly outside the
school
2. There are some 36 parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the
school
Overall, we found that the routes around the school were:
 Very good and there are several access points to the school
with good provision of footpaths

Jack Inn Park on Gladstone Street canwe

used
change?
as a drop off zone
When we looked at the road infrastructure we found:
Newey and Gladstone is a very busy
intersection at parent drop off times
Due to the tight nature of the car parking, when
parents park outside the school then reverse
the area becomes very congested
Median islands on Kooyong Road provide
good crossing points but it is a very busy
road that may benefit from further
measures
The school is within a 40km/h designated
zone
Pupils concerns from audit
 People reversing out everywhere, driving in chaos
 Occasional falling leaves are a concern
 Cars speeding on Newey Street
