THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON ATATÜRK
13-16 OCTOBER 2015 / GANJA / AZERBAIJAN
An International Congress on Atatürk is held once in every four years by Atatürk
Research Center, one of the four institutions that constitute Higher Institution of Atatürk
Culture, Language and History so as to help carry out scientific evaluations, analyze the
effects of the events that took place during the establishment and development stages of the
Republic of Turkey on the current day and their roles in shaping the future and contribute to
vocational cooperation and solidarity among international scholars and historians of the recent
era by creating scientific platforms where the newly-found information and findings will be
shared and discussed on the highest level in the fields ranging from culture, politics, economy
to the structure of the society by shedding light on the history of the Republic of Turkey
comprehensively and by starting from the environment in which Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was
born and through the period extending to the present day.
Within this context, The 8th International Congress on Atatürk is going to be held
with the collaboration of our institution and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences
(ANAS) – Institute of History in Azerbaijan (Ganja) on 13-16 October 2015 under the
auspices of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey and H.E. İlham
Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
The main theme of the 8th International Congress on Atatürk has been determined as
Atatürk and the Caucasus and its Vicinity in the Turkish Cultural Geography
It can be seen that the importance of the Caspian Sea-the Caucasus-the Black Sea and
their vicinity has been increasing in the political and cultural geography of the world in the
21st century. That peace and tranquility are protected in this geographical region concerns the
whole world, particularly the countries in this region. For this very reason, it is of great
importance that peace is maintained in the Caucasus basin. This congress seeks to find
solutions in the context of Atatürk’s approach of “Peace at Home, Peace in the World” by
scientifically examining and evaluating the cultural, political and economic developments in
the Caucasus and its vicinity from the past to the present day.
Below are the paper titles which are to be included in the congress. The Caucasus and
its vicinity refer to the Black Sea-the Caucasus-the Caspian Sea basin-Central Asia-ChinaIndia and the region which includes the Far East. The framework of the paper titles is broad
enough and therefore, so long as one does not digress from the main theme, different paper
titles can be suggested.
The main themes for the paper titles are as follows:
1. The Caucasus and its vicinity in the cultural, political, economic and social life of
the Ottoman Empire from the beginning of the 19th century till the end of the World War I
2. The Caucasian policy of the Great Powers
3. The Caucasus and its vicinity during the National Struggle
4. Turkey’s relations with The Caucasus and its vicinity in the Atatürk Era
5. The perception of Atatürk and Atatürk’s Turkey in the Caucasus and its vicinity
6. The relations of the Republic of Turkey with the Caucasus and its vicinity and the
future (political, economic, cultural etc.)

7. Occupations, migrations, exiles in the Caucasus and its vicinity in the 19th and 20th
centuries
8. The Caucasus and its vicinity through the eyes of diplomats, travelers and historians
in the 19th and 20th centuries
We would like to meet the scholars and researchers who wish to participate in the
congress with their academic work relied on new information, documents and evaluations in
the fields of the main topics stated above.
Papers are supposed to be original and it is required that they have not been presented
or printed before and that they are not titles, subtitles or parts of a published book or a thesis
even though the thesis has not been published.
The scholars who wish to take part in the congress are supposed to send their paper
abstracts consisting of a minimum of 300 words with their CVs and the publication lists by
filling in the application form that can be found on our website to
[email protected] until March 6, 2015. The official languages of the
congress are Turkish and English. After the paper abstracts have been evaluated by the
Organizing and Scientific Committees of the congress, another announcement about the
accepted papers will be made.
The travel and accommodation expenses of those who participate in the congress to
present their papers will be covered by the Presidency of Ataturk Research Center.

Domestic and foreign academicians as well as researchers who study the relevant subjects
are welcome to participate in the congress. For participation, paper abstracts containing
objectives, methods, resources used and possible findings with a minimum of 300 words
must be sent as an attached file to [email protected] The deadline is
the end of the working time on March 6, 2015. Paper abstracts will be evaluated by the
members of the Organizing and Scientific Committees by taking their conformity with
congress topics and scientific conditions as well as the originality of the studies into
account. Assessments by the committee members will be in the way of acceptance /
correction / rejection. The accepted papers will be announced to the related people and they
will be asked to send the full text until July 24, 2015 so that they can be involved in the final
program. Official languages of the congress are Turkish and English.

The full texts of the accepted papers must be sent as a Word file in conformity with
spelling rules and writing format to [email protected] until July 24,
2015. The papers the full texts of which have been sent will be involved in the congress

program after being examined by Organizing and Scientific Committees in terms of
conformity with abstract and scientific terms.
Printing the Presented Papers as a Book
Those who will have presented their papers in the congress will be asked to send the full texts
of their papers after they have been reviewed within the framework of question-answer and
the discussions carried out to [email protected] until December 18,
2015 the latest. The papers which are not sent until the date stated above will not be
included in the Congress Book.
FUL L T E XT WRIT ING FO RM A T FO R PA PE RS
1. The heading of the study must be written in bold, using capital letters; the textalignment should be central and the name of the author should be placed just below, to
the right. The academic title, institution and e-mail should be given respectively in an
unnumbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
2. Following the heading and author name, the Turkish and English summaries/abstracts
should be written in size 10pt, each consisting of 300 words. The English summary
should also include the heading in English.
3. The typeface should be Times New Roman, in size 12pt. Tables, footnotes and
references should be relayed in size 10pt.
4. The study should be written in M. Word program, blocked according to an A4 paper
size. Margins should consist of 2,5cm while the header and footer should be 1,25cm.
5. There must be spacing between paragraphs. The indent: 0 cm, 6pt space-before: 6pt
space-after, using single line spacing.
6. Concerning references, the surname of the author, date of publication and page
number should be given in this order in brackets as in the following example: (Çaycı,
2002:520). If referenced in a footnote, however, it should be expressed in a sequence
following the name and surname of the author, the book title (in bold, articles
expressed in quotation marks and italic), the publishing house, place and date of
publication and page number. The sources used should be presented as in the format of
footnotes, in alphabetical order according to surname at the end of the article.
7. Tables and graphics need to be individually numbered, giving their resources directly
beneath the table or graphic in size 10pt.
8. Original documents, pictures (photos, images, etc.), maps which are not directly
relevant to the study should not be presented within the article body but should be
numbered and attached at the end of it. High-resolution images should be saved on a
CD and submitted separately.
9. The paper is to be from 10 up to a maximum of 20 pages.
